Research strategies and links to information resources useful in doing research for ENGWR 300.

Using OneSearch to find Journal Articles

OneSearch, which we used during the library research session, is a platform that searches many of our electronic databases and our library print book catalog at the same time. It's like doing a Google search of most of the library's resources. You can execute a OneSearch right on the library homepage, as shown during the library instruction or you can go to the Research Databases page and select OneSearch from the list of databases found there.

Here are some search tips:

  • Enter keywords that represent your topic:
  • Limit searches to two or three keywords:   Intimate Partner Violence
  • Don't search with sentences, questions, or long phrases.
  • Combine terms with OR to broaden:   Sex Work  OR  Sex Workers
  • Combine terms with AND to narrow:  Sexuality  AND  Media
  • Place quotation marks around words you wish to be searched as a phrase: "Domestic Violence"
